News Release:
SAFETY and SCAM ALERT
Please take caution and stay alert. Several gentleman have been seen in the community, posing as government employees or employees of energy assistance programs, knocking on doors, in an attempt to gain entry. They are not employed by the government, and are not affiliated with any government programs. Please do not open your doors or communicate with these individuals, as they have been robbing homes in the community at gun point. Also, please be aware of your surroundings during this holiday season as well.
AARP NEWS YOU CAN USE
Free Vaccines
According to a recent announcement, Medicare will now cover the full cost of all vaccines recommended for older adults, including shingles, whopping cough, and tetanus. An AARP analysis found that only 45 percent of people ages 50 and over with Medicare have had a shingles vaccine, even though it is recommended for everyone over age 50. This expanded coverage helps ensure that people enrolled in Medicare are protected against serious illnesses. Talk to your healthcare provider about necessary vaccines to have your questions answered.
ITS SNOW SEASON!
Social Security Announces 2.8 Percent Benefit Increase for 2026
Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) from the third quarter of 2024 through the third quarter of 2025, Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive a 2.8 percent COLA for 2026. Other important 2026 Social Security information is as follows:
The 7.65 percent tax rate is the combined rate for Social Security and Medicare. The Social Security portion (OASDI) is 6.2 percent on earnings up to the applicable taxable maximum amount (see below). The Medicare portion (HI) is 1.45 percent on all earnings. Also, as of January 2013, individuals with earned income of more than $200,000 ($250,000 for married couples filing jointly) pay an additional 0.9 percent in Medicare taxes. The tax rates shown above do not include the 0.9 percent.
“Medicare premiums are going down and Social Security benefits are going up in 2023, which will give seniors more peace of mind and breathing room. This year’s substantial Social Security cost-of-living adjustment is the first time in over a decade that Medicare premiums are not rising and shows that we can provide more support to older Americans who count on the benefits they have earned,” Acting Commissioner Kilolo Kijakazi said.

What Types of Care and Services Are Provided by Home Health Agencies?
Home health agencies have to be certified or licensed in compliance with state and local standards. In order to receive Medicaid or Medicare, they also have to meet certain standards set out by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). That means that the skilled nursing and other healthcare services your agency provides must be overseen by a team that includes a physician and appropriately qualified nurses, even though your family might not work directly with those medical administrators.
Visit Caring.com to learn more about Home Health services, In-Home care, how to pay for Assisted Living, memory care and other topics for senior care.
